Member of the Month: Gayna Carter, Emerge
To know her is to love her. Meet our newest MOTM, Gayna Carter. You can’t not smile when you’re around her, which is definitely a benefit when it comes to her client-facing role of outsourced accounting at Emerge. Not only does Gayna care deeply for those around her, but she is an animal-lover through and through; you can tell by the way she treats her pup, Jack, like royalty. She’s integral to the culture at her company and also to the community here at The Root Coworking.
Emerge recently merged with one of our founding members, Embark, and we couldn’t be happier to witness this growth. Emerge brings a unique combination of expertise, experience and hospitality to outsourced accounting services that is also synonymous with its parent company, Embark. Embark was launched in Dallas in 2010, and has since grown to over 300 employees in 10 different cities around the U.S.
Now, without further ado, meet the lovely Gayna Carter…
What do you do? Tell us a little bit about your company.
I work for Emerge as an oil and gas outsource accountant. We handle all the back office accounting for companies, and the clients I work on are all in the oil and gas industry. I have worked in oil and gas for most of my career, but this is my first experience in outsourcing.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part of my job is working on a team with three of my favorite former coworkers. We have a long history together and I am excited to get to spend quality time with them again. It’s icing on the top that my new coworkers have also been a delight.
What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation?
I could talk at length about my sweet dog named Jack. He is a Morkie and makes me so happy. He is 14 years old, but still spry, and enjoys chasing bunnies and squirrels in the backyard. I love to share pictures of him!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I always wanted to become an elementary school teacher. Some of my very favorite people growing up in Idabel were my teachers. I also have many family members in education. I didn’t become a teacher, but do love children and have volunteered with little ones throughout my life.
What is your favorite restaurant in Tulsa and what do you get there?
I enjoy going to Yokozuna with friends. I love sushi and always order the Golden Driller roll there. Their white Sangria is also very refreshing.
Given unlimited resources, how would you go about making the world a better place?
With unlimited resources, I would make sure everyone had enough food to eat in the world. No one should ever go to sleep hungry.
What’s one song or artist that you’re embarrassed to admit you like?
Barry Manilow is a favorite of mine. Many of his songs remind me of growing up. One day, I hope to see him in concert. I better hurry!
What is one of your favorite things about being a member of The Root Coworking?
I love that I get to meet a lot of different people. I normally wouldn’t if I worked in a traditional office space. Everyone I have met has been so nice and it makes me look forward to coming here.

Give it up for our last, but certainly not least, 2022 member of the month, Jenna Giesow! Jenna is the co-owner and CEO of VAST Media. She was one of the top 10 seniors her year at OSU and a competitive runner post-grad. Speaking of OSU, Jenna is the biggest college football fan in the space; you can bet on it. Now, she’s on her next trip around the sun leading VAST Media and expecting another sweet baby. She really does it all!
It’s official! The Root is joining forces with the very popular local Tulsa coffee shop, Notion Espresso to create a new concept called Notion Market Café. Notion Market Café will make its initial debut at our new location, Market Station, set to open in early 2023, and will be added to our current location at East Village shortly after. Coffee and lunch meetings just got a whole lot better!
Business Owner, Managing Partner, Feminist, Mother, Military Wife, Dog-lover, Non-profit Starter, Craft Beer Queen of The Root. Robin Walters is now adding another title to her ever-growing list: November Member of the Month! Robin started her own staffing company in 2018 called Rogue Recruitment. One of the cool things about Robin is that you can talk to her about almost any subject because she just knows a little bit about a lot of different things. We love having Robin and her team here at The Root—if you wanna meet her, you can just stop by the front desk on pastry-delivery day (Tuesday mornings).
