Meet Jay Toral, our vibrant and ever-approachable Member of the Month at The Root Coworking! Originally from the West Coast, Jay now calls Claremore, OK home, where he manages a sprawling property complete with a large pond and plenty of farming projects. A devoted father to his two kids, Jay seamlessly balances family life, his love for the outdoors, and a passion for helping others.
As a Conversion Scientist, he combines data science, marketing expertise, and a detective’s instinct to help businesses boost their success through A/B testing and analytics. When he’s not perfecting websites or sharing random facts, you’ll likely find Jay chatting with a stranger-turned-new-friend, collecting our leftover coffee grounds for his compost, or dreaming up ways to bring a Dutch Bros closer to our building. With his contagious positivity, thoughtful insights, and neighborly spirit, Jay truly embodies the best of our coworking community.
What do you do? Tell us a little bit about your work.
I am a Conversion Scientist. Part Data Science, Part Sherlock Holmes, Part Marketing Coach, I get to spend my week helping businesses convert more visitors into customers using A/B testing to split the traffic of their website into discrete groups of users that get slightly different versions of the site. Then using analytics, heat mapping, surveys, and other tools, I analyze not just IF a change is an improvement but I also calculate exactly how much money that change will make my clients over the months and years to come.
What’s your favorite quote?
You can’t pick up one end of the stick without picking up the other.
What would your walk-up song be?
All I do is win by DJ Khalid.
What is the most valuable career advice you’ve been given?
Don’t get paid in promises.
What was your first car? Did you name it?
A 1983 Nissan 280zx named Karma.
When you started out, what did you think your job would be at this point in time?
I was in the middle of enlisting as a Counter-Intelligence Linguist in the military when my father fell ill, and I took over the family business. So, by now I was expecting to be James Bond.
There are now 25 hours in a day—how do you spend your extra hour?
Contemplating if I need to celebrate my birthday 15 days earlier every year or if I should just add a year to my age every 24 years.
What do you think is the best part about being a member of The Root Coworking?
The community. Everyone coming and going from The Root offices has one thing in common—we have a lot to get done. But what I find extraordinary is the genuine neighborliness on display every day. Busy people finding moments in between the chaos of the workday to connect, share, and help each other every day.
