Member of the Month: Alina Guzman, Zelis
Say hello to Alina Guzman, our September member of the month! Alina is the lead software engineer at Zelis, a healthcare technology company committed to reducing costs. As a former New Yorker, Alina brings her fashion A-game each day to The Root, and is always down for whatever new cocktail or wine pairing our community team has cooked up! She’s also a world traveler, big into barre classes, and brings genuine vibes to the space each day.
Zelis was founded on a belief that there is a better way to determine the cost of a healthcare claim, manage payment-related data, and submit the payment, because more affordable and transparent care is good for all of us. Zelis empowers organizations with flexible solutions to bridge the gaps in the healthcare financial system and to deliver real, measurable results. They create purpose-built solutions so you can focus on your mission of providing access to quality care at a reasonable cost.
What do you do? Tell us a little bit about your company.
I’m a Lead Software Engineer at Zelis, a healthcare technology company. I work on the S365 product that helps members search for care with an emphasis on reducing costs without sacrificing quality. Health insurance is a complicated and expensive industry and we are working on simplifying it!
What is the best investment you’ve ever made?
Definitely moving to Tulsa! Almost three years ago I decided to take a chance – I moved from New York, leaving friends and family, and was ready for something new. That move has completely changed my life in all the best ways. I bought my first house, got promoted, and am getting married this September! 🙂
How did you end up in your current role?
10 years ago, I completed a coding bootcamp at General Assembly, fell in love with software development and never looked back!
What do you do to get rid of stress?
I take barre classes- its a great low impact, full body exercise that leaves me feeling much better every time. The community where I go, Pure Barre Midtown, is amazing too!
What is your favorite restaurant in Tulsa and what do you get there?
It’s too hard to pick a favorite so I have to list two! I love the Voodoo Chicken at Nola’s and the Boneless Fried Chicken at Roosevelt’s.
What can’t you leave the grocery store without?
A bag of local coffee beans – I love trying all the coffee!
What’s a pet peeve that you would make illegal if you could?
What is up with 12 hour delivery windows!? Really anything more than 3 hours should to be illegal.
What is one of your favorite things about being a member of The Root Coworking?
I love all the fun and thoughtful events the Root team organizes weekly. It’s a great way to connect with them and other members. Remote work can be lonely so I’m very grateful for the Root!

Meet the co-founder and COO of Plannly, Alisha Harris! Alisha is all about being the best possible version of herself. You know those people who seem like they have it all figured out? Alisha definitely fits that description! She just has to have her vanilla oat milk latte each day—especially since she works well into the night at times. We are so lucky to have such a kind, innovative and ambitious person like Alisha at East Village.
