Member of the Month: Alan Faulk, Serial Entrepreneur
Have you met our July Member of the Month, Alan Faulk? Answer is: probably yes! Our go-to guy who is always down to participate, make friends, and connect you with whoever or whatever you’re needing at the moment. It’s always nice to have him around—whether it’s giving a new perspective you haven’t considered before, or pointing you towards the best dive bars in Tulsa, Alan is the guy!
Alan is a serial entrepreneur, partner + CLO at Shatterbox, founder of Junction Strength and Conditioning (coming soon!), and an executive coach at Why Not Consulting. Is there anything this guy doesn’t do!?
What do you do? Tell us a little bit about your company.
Like most entrepreneurs, it’s a mouthful. So, here it goes…
- Opening soon… Junction Strength + Movement gym next door to the Root in Market Station. It’s a boutique functional fitness gym that prioritizes mobility, serious about strength, and tops off the tank with conditioning. Saturday’s will be our favorite – team style bootcamps with cold plunges.
- Shatterbox. Partner + CLO. We solve the talent gap in the SBA industry by recruiting new talent and placing them through our 1 year apprenticeship program. Inc. Magazine just named us as one of the Tulsa startups to watch in 2023.
- Why Not Consulting. Executive coach for a Louisiana-based nonprofit. Also have a development team that builds operational platforms through Monday.com
What could you give a 30-minute presentation about with no advance preparation?
How to tweak your daily routine to stop the “4 Horsemen of Death” (cardiovascular disease, neurodegenerative disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer).
What is the best investment you’ve ever made?
Hands down the answer is always…ME! Education, nutrition, fitness, recovery, experiences, etc. The better I am, the better everything around me can become.
What do you do to get rid of stress?
10,000 steps a day. Find a way to workout everyday (in addition to the steps). Get outside. Be around people + family. Eat whole foods and protein. Seriously, all these things are in my thoughts everyday when it comes to fighting stress.
What is the plot of your favorite movie or book?
Most recent read, The Midnight Library. The main character is stuck in an afterlife-library. Each book plays out an alternative life if one decision was made differently. Ultimately, the character has live many of these stories in order to learn a very particular lesson.
What is one of your favorite things about being a member of The Root Coworking?
The people. Have you tried working from home? Besides being distracted from the million chores you need to do, it’s just lonely. Walking into the Root, I feel like Norm from Cheers (is that too old of a reference). It’s great to have so many new friends…like…real friends…NOT “who are you, what do you do, how can I use you” type friends.
P.S. Did you know that Alan also plays in a weekly pickleball league at the Tulsan Athletic Club right down the street from our new location, Market Station? He’s actually pretty dang good…
