Member of the Month: Robin Walters, Rogue Recruitment
Business Owner, Managing Partner, Feminist, Mother, Military Wife, Dog-lover, Non-profit Starter, Craft Beer Queen of The Root. Robin Walters is now adding another title to her ever-growing list: November Member of the Month! Robin started her own staffing company in 2018 called Rogue Recruitment. One of the cool things about Robin is that you can talk to her about almost any subject because she just knows a little bit about a lot of different things. We love having Robin and her team here at The Root—if you wanna meet her, you can just stop by the front desk on pastry-delivery day (Tuesday mornings).
Founded in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rogue Recruitment is a specialized staffing company that brings the focus of recruitment back to what actually matters—the people. Not numbers or metrics. People. Rogue has a simple three-step process: you tell them who you want, they find who you want, you hire who you want. It’s simple; no gimmicks, no extra noise. Just straight up, honest recruitment.
What do you do? Tell us a little bit about your company.
I head out Rogue Recruitment, the anti-staffing staffing company founded in 2018. No gimmicks, no BS, just honest, straight-forward recruitment.
What’s a work-related accomplishment that you’re really proud of?
In all the uncertainty and craziness of 2020 when other staffing agencies were closing their entire Tulsa office, Rogue was stable. Every single employee on our payroll on January 1st, 2020, was on our payroll January 1st, 2021 (with a raise).
What is the best part of your job?
Hands down, the best part of my job is being able to witness and play a part in the truly life-changing impact that starting the right job can have for someone. There can be a lot of negativity in the staffing industry, but seeing the impact we are able to make is how I keep fighting.
What was the most important chance encounter you’ve had?
Back in 2016, I had recently started working at a major staffing company. Most of the companies in town were already “owned” by other members of the team, so I was trying to drum up new clients by calling startups. I was going through my list and called a new SaaS whose basic premise was “staffing agencies are the worst and expensive; use our recruitment software instead.”
I cold called them and Alex Golimbievsky answered. I asked him why he was trying to get rid of my job. A little over two years later, we started Rogue Recruitment together.
What strategies do you use to make big decisions?
Having my daughter a year ago was (obviously) pretty life-changing. Every decision has to pass the test of “Is my daughter better off if I do this?”
What trend do you hope makes a comeback?
As long as Birkenstocks are never taken away from me, I’ll be okay. And if they are “out,” please don’t ever tell me. I don’t know what I would do.
What’s a pet peeve that you would make illegal if you could?
Adopting a pet without understanding the long-term commitment.
What is one of your favorite things about being a member of The Root Coworking?
We’re are a small, scrappy team. We love still being able to feel like part of a community.
